Worcester Bike to Work Day Breakfast Brings Worcester’s Bike Community Together 🚴☕🥐
Despite a rainy forecast trying to keep us guessing… somehow the skies turned blue just in time for more than 25 people to gather Friday morning at WCUW Community Radio for the Worcester Bike to Work Day Breakfast.
Hosted as part of Bike Month celebrations, the event brought together riders, advocates, planners, local businesses, trail supporters, and community members for a morning full of coffee, pastries, bicycles, conversation, music, and lots of positive energy.
This year’s breakfast was made possible thanks to the support and collaboration of many wonderful partners and organizations, including:
- WalkBike Worcester
- Worcester Earn-A-Bike
- Wachusett Greenways
- Mass Central Rail Trail Alliance
- Seven Hills Wheelmen
- Wicked Wheels
- Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission
- Landry's Bicycles
A very special thank you goes to WCUW for opening their doors and creating such a welcoming atmosphere. Many attendees shared how much they enjoyed touring the station and learning more about Worcester’s independent community radio station and the important role it plays in the city.
Special thanks as well to Greg Affsa from Landry’s Bicycles and John Hamilton from WCUW’s The Scottish Hour, who both showed up bright and early at 6:30am to help set everything up. A huge thank you also goes to Nate from CMRPC/Worcester Earn-A-Bike for handling early morning pastry and coffee pickup duties before most of Worcester was even awake. And a heartfelt thank you to Diane Sutter from WCUW’s Juke Joint for believing in and supporting this idea from day one.
Another highlight of the morning came when Mark from CrossTracks invited us live on-air during his show to talk about Bike Month events and Worcester’s growing bike community. Nothing says “Friday morning” quite like bicycles, community radio, and slightly over-caffeinated bike advocates talking into microphones. 📻🚴😂
Throughout the morning, the room was filled with bike stories, advocacy conversations, stickers, laughs, and new community connections. Some people arrived by bike, others by car, but everyone showed up with the same spirit: celebrating community and the joy of getting around by bicycle.
Events like this remind us that biking is about much more than transportation. It’s about relationships, health, sustainability, public spaces, and creating opportunities for people to connect with one another.
And honestly… coffee and pastries just taste better around bicycles. 😊
And don’t go too far… stay tuned for our next adventure: a Community Bike Ride celebrating 250 years of independence! 🇺🇸🚴🎉 Because apparently America turning 250 is the perfect excuse for another bike ride.
Thank you again to everyone who attended and helped make this community tradition continue to grow. Worcester’s bike community is something really special, and we keep getting stronger together! ❤️🚴
