Bikes and Transit

MassBike/Metro Boston participates in the MBTA's Bikes on the T committee.

In September 2005, MassBike won a major victory when the MBTA announced that it plans to equip 250 buses in the Greater Boston area with bike racks. Please see our press release for more details.

Working with MassBike, the MBTA in November 2004 dramatically increased the hours that bicycles are allowed on the subway (see details of the current Bikes on the T policy, and our press release about MassBike's success regarding the change in hours).

MassBike has previously won important victories for cyclists who use the MBTA. In 1985, MassBike won the right for cyclists to bring their bikes on the T. In 2000, MassBike successfully encouraged the T to eliminate the "special pass" requirement in order to carry one's bike on the subway.
