MassBike's Federal Transportation Advocacy
MassBike works closely with our Congressional delegation to ensure that bicycle projects across the state receive support and funding. This year, MassBike successfully lobbied our delegation to support the federal transportation bill (SAFETEA-LU). The following list, compiled by the Associated Press, shows which bike projects will receive special "earmarked" funding.
A list of bike paths getting funding in the transportation bill

Congress recently approved a transportation spending bill that includes about $40 million for the creation and extension of bike and recreational paths around Massachusetts.
Metro Boston:
-- Improve Arlington bikeway: $1.6 million.
-- Construct Assabet River rail trail in Acton, Hudson, Maynard and Stow: $1.5 million.
-- Improve Cambridge bike path: $1 million.
-- Extend Somerville bike path: $900,000.
-- Create Norwood pedestrian walkway: $780,000.
-- Emerald Necklace greenway and bike trail, Brookline: $600,000.
North Shore:
-- Construct "Border-to-Boston Bikeway," Salisbury to Danvers: $800,000.
Cape Cod:
-- Cape Cod Bike Trail, link with outer communities and national sites: $3.2 million
-- Construct bike and pedestrian trails, Barnstable County: $3 million.
Central:
-- North Worcester County bike paths: $4 million.
-- Construct Blackstone River Bikeway and Worcester Bikeway between Providence, R.I., and Worcester: $2 million.
-- Construct Quinebaug River Rail Trail Bikeway: $800,000.
-- Construct Grand Trunk Trail bikeway Sturbridge to Southbridge: $560,000.
Western:
-- Hampshire County bike paths: $4.4 million.
-- Southwick and Westfield rail trail: $4 million.
-- Berkshire County bike paths: $4 million.
-- Holyoke Canal Walk: $3.5 million.
-- East Longmeadow Redstone rail trail bike path: $1.2 million.
-- Canalside rail trail, Deerfield and Montague: $800,000.
